Puffer Jackets & Coats
Depending on where you live, a puffer jacket or coat is one of the outerwear must-haves during the winter. Black will be the most versatile. But if you have that covered, it’s fun to switch it up a bit. Even though it’s only October…those freezing temps will be here before you know it. So I’m sharing 12 amazing puffer jacket options to add to your wardrobe… Including classic black puffers and some fun, stylish, on-trend options too!
By the way, if you’re planning a ski trip this year, make sure you check out this post with everything you need to look like a (stylish) pro on the slopes!
Best Puffer Jackets for Women
There are so many different types of puffer jackets and depending on your climate, it can be confusing to know what kind of puffer jacket or coat you really need. If you live somewhere with below zero temps, you probably need extra warmth from your puffer jacket to combat that cold weather. If you live somewhere where it’s freezing and rainy, you’ll want to make sure you get a puffer with wind and water-repellent material. For those of you who live in warmer climates like Texas, you probably don’t need a heavy-duty insulated jacket. If you’re looking for super high-quality puffers, my go-to brands include Herno, SAM., Mackage, Parajumpers, Perfect Moment, North Face, and Canada Goose. If you don’t need a puffer jacket that’s as warm, I recommend checking out Nordstrom, Revolve, and Shopbop for more fashion-forward and affordable options.

Favorite Long Puffer
If you’re a longtime subscriber, you know how much I love SAM. Puffer coats and jackets. They’re super high quality and not your average puffers. This one, for example, has a flattering belt around the waist. Staying warm and layering can be tricky. Many times, we layer and layer and layer so much that we look like a big puff-ball. But with this puffer, it cinches at the waist and gives you shape! I also love that it’s longer so it keeps you super warm and it has a removable hood.
Herno quality is unbeatable! The brand is a local favorite. If you walk down the streets of Telluride, you will most likely see a woman wearing a Herno puffer. Their puffers are SUPER warm, but also not that bulky so you can layer them easily under a wool or cashmere coat when you want to look a bit more sophisticated but stay warm. I also love that it’s longer so it keeps more of my body warm. Plus, they're super wind and water resistant...a must!
If you live somewhere with extreme cold, a full-body puffer might be the best choice for you. Parajumpers is one of the highest quality brands when it comes to puffer coats. They are pricey, but worth the investment! This puffer is beyond warm, and LONG, which is key because the short ones won’t keep your butt and legs warm. It’s also stylish. It doesn’t look or feel too oversized. And, yet it is big enough to allow for multiple layers. It will keep your entire body warm. It is not an exaggeration to say, it feels like you are wearing a sleeping bag in terms of warmth!
Does anyone remember this super cool houndstooth puffer? It’s by Perfect Moment, which quickly became one of my favorite ski brands a few years ago. This puffer is chic, very warm, and serves as a ski jacket and an everyday jacket. If anyone is planning a ski trip, I shared everything you need to look like a pro on the slopes in a post linked above.
If you already have your basic black puffer and want something new and fresh, this gorgeous army green faux leather jacket is perfect! The color is versatile enough to go with all the other neutrals in your closet, the faux leather looks luxe, and the fit is great.
Chances are you’ve probably heard of Canada Goose. They’re the gold standard when it comes to warm coats and jackets. I love the metallic silver color of this one…and of course, you know it’s warm!
Wearing white during the winter is one of my favorite ways to bust out of that winter haze. This Aqua matte white puffer is under $200, looks luxe, and it’s so chic.
I know many women shy away from wearing black and brown together but I LOVE it. It’s easier than you think too. I love that this puffer takes the guesswork out of it by combining both shades!

I currently live in Japan and the morning hours have been between 20-45 degrees with days about 50-60 degrees for the high. These jackets are perfect for warmth and style. Thank you for the article.
I’m short, so I need a cost that doesn’t make me look boxy. One’s with belt’s or off center zipper’s. Great ideas. But you always have such great fashion taste????????????????

Try a wrap coat… that will not make you look boxy. Or a lightweight puffer.
Puffer coats always made me feel bigger and unwieldy. However, you showed a couple here that are cute and slimmer! Thank you!
